Privacy Policy — QR Code Scanner

Package com.tahatec.qr_code_scanner · Published by Tahatec · Effective 24 October 2026

QR Code Scanner (“the app”) scans QR codes and barcodes with your camera or from an image, shows what they contain, and creates new codes. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with data.

Everything you scan stays on your device

Codes are decoded on the phone itself, using an on-device barcode engine. The content of a code — a link, a Wi-Fi password, a contact card, a one-time-password seed, a product number — is never uploaded, and the developer has no access to it. Your scan history and the codes you create are stored only on your device; deleting the app’s data or uninstalling the app removes them permanently. You can turn history off in Settings → Keep history.

Camera and images

The camera is used only while the Scan tab is open, to find codes in the live picture. No photo or video is recorded or stored. When you choose “Scan an image”, the system photo picker hands the app one image you select; it is analysed on the device and not kept. When you save a code you created, it is written to your photo library as a PNG.

What leaves your device

1. Advertising. The app shows ads via Google AdMob (with Meta Audience Network as a mediation partner). The ads SDK may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID), coarse location derived from IP, and diagnostic signals to serve and measure ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and regulated US states, ads are only requested after you make a choice in the consent dialog (Google UMP), and you can change that choice at any time in Settings → Privacy options.

Meta’s policy: facebook.com/privacy/policy

2. Analytics and crash reporting. The app uses Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to understand which features are used and to fix crashes. Analytics events record feature usage only — for example that a Wi-Fi code was scanned, or that a link was opened — never the content of the code: not the link, the network name, the password, the contact, or any text you type. Crash reports contain stack traces and device model information.

3. Notifications. If you allow notifications, the app registers with Firebase Cloud Messaging to receive occasional announcements about new features. A push token identifies the installation, not you. You can decline the prompt or turn notifications off in system settings.

Opening what a code contains

When you tap Open link, Call, Add contact and similar actions, the app hands the content to the app you choose on your device (your browser, dialer, contacts app, maps app). From that point the other app’s privacy policy applies. Web links are shown to you, with the site’s domain, before they are opened; the optional “Open links automatically” setting is off by default.
